Comprehensive Dentistry
Comprehensive dentistry involves three building blocks: the teeth, the supporting structures (gum and bone), and the occlusion (the bite and TMJ). Oral health directly relates to your general health and vice versa. Some oral health risk factors that affect systemic heath are periodontal disease, tooth decay, missing teeth, malocclusion, and bruxism (teeth grinding and/or clenching). Some systemic health risk factors that affect oral health are smoking, diet, sleep disorders/sleep pattern problems, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, genetics, and medications. Accordingly, Dr. Westendorf takes a comprehensive dentistry approach with his patients, encouraging good oral health as a way to maintain and improve overall health.
